Monte Ahuja College of Business

First Year FOCUS

Become a Monte Ahuja College of Business student for a day!

Choosing which college to attend is a tough decision. Did you ever feel that if you could spend a day as a student it would make your decision much easier? Well, now you can! The Business First Year FOCUS program at the Monte Ahuja College of Business at Cleveland State University enables you to become a CSU Business student for the day.

Why Study Business?

Did you know Business graduates can potentially earn higher salaries than any other four year degree? The Monte Ahuja College of Business at CSU offers a number of undergraduate business majors, so you can really focus on the area of business that you are most interested in:

  • Accounting
  • Business Administration (General Business)
  • Business Economics
  • Finance
  • Information Systems
  • International Business
  • Management and Labor Relations: General Management
  • Management and Labor Relations: Human Resources Management
  • Marketing
  • Operations and Supply Chain Management
  • Computer and Information Science (earning a BS CIS degree)

That's a lot of choices. I'm not sure which area I'm interested in.

Not to worry! The Monte Ahuja College of Business Advising Office is here to help. We offer services to all undergraduate business students to help you achieve your educational and career goals. Our Advising and Career Services staff can help you choose courses, understand graduation requirements and secure internships. We also have a dedicated Business Tutoring Center to assist as you learn business theory and practice.

Are students involved with more than just classes?

Definitely! The Freshman Sophomore Business Association (FSBA) and the Ahuja Business Minority Society (ABMS) are two of many student organizations that offer academic, social and professional support. These groups help students enhance their business skills outside of the classroom with professional networking development and career exploration events. Members of these organizations also have exclusive access to scholarships, book loans and networking opportunities.

What will the day look like?

When you arrive on campus, you will meet the other students in your group for an informal breakfast.
After breakfast, it’s time for your first of two business courses of the day! You will be sitting in on an actual class taught by our world class College of Business faculty.
After class we will take a tour of the College of Business and the entire Cleveland State University campus. There are so many great things to see around campus and you’ll be amazed at just how much there is to do!
Once the tour is complete, it’s time for lunch. You will join the College of Business staff for a catered lunch where you are free to ask any questions about your college search, CSU, possible majors…anything!
After lunch you move onto your second class.
Finally, when class is complete, you will meet with our Assistant Director of Business Undergraduate Programs to learn more about the many different business programs and services we offer as well as how you can take advantage of scholarships.
The day will end with a thank you reception hosted by our College of Business student groups and a parting gift.

What courses can I take?

During the Business First Year FOCUS program, you will sit in on two business courses from the options below:

BUS 151 – Introduction to Business: This class is just like it sounds – a true introduction to Business. You will be introduced to the global environment of business, the strategies that create successful businesses, and the rewards of professional careers in this field. We highly recommend choosing this course as one of the two attended during the program.

ACT 221 – Introductory Accounting I: Did you know there is a shortage of highly skilled accountants in the Cleveland area? This course will teach you the fundamentals of accounting theory, concepts and practice, as well as how it is used as a basis for business.
