Dear Students,
During the Spring 2011 semester, students can gain international experience in Japan by registering for a new course titled, "International Field Experience in Supply Chain Management" (OSM 438/538, OSM 625, or INB 491). You can scroll through the entire page at your convenience, or click on the specific sections that interest you in the list below. Included at the bottom of the page is the Itinerary that will be followed this spring.
Program DescriptionThis is an eight day tour to Japan during the Spring Break of 2011. Students will stay in a three-star hotel in the heart of Tokyo, one of the safest cities in the world. A faculty member from the Operations & Supply Chain Management Department will accompany students throughout their stay, along with a professional guide/translator. They will attend workshops and presentations by U.S. commercial services; visit world-class Japanese companies such as Seven-Eleven, Hitachi, Kirin Brewery, etc.; and have a chance to observe the auction of fish at the world famous Tsukiji fish market. The program also includes many cultural activities, such as visiting shrines and temples, walking around the emperor's palace, participating in a tea ceremony, and many others. The program also allows student free time to explore places like the renowned electronic shopping district, Akihabara. Academic ProgramThis course provides students with the opportunity to experience Japanese management practices by visiting world-class manufacturing and logistics companies. Those companies are the pioneers of many innovative approaches in supply chain management (SCM) that are widely imitated by companies all over the world. |
