Master of Social Work

Master of Education in Educational Technology is offered through the Department of Curriculum and Instruction. The program offers specialization coursework, including extensive hands-on experiences with a variety of computer and technology activities, while requiring the production of technology-related curricular materials and addressing the societal context in which technology in education occurs. Endorsement in Educational Technology is available online and through IVDL instruction. The program requires that students have and existing state of Ohio teaching license or certificate and complete five required courses (19 credit hours). Endorsement candidates can us this coursework toward the Master's degree. More information can be found at the program website.

Endorsement or Masters in Talented and Gifted Learners offers licensure as a gifted intervention specialist or a Master's degree in Curriculum and Foundations with an emphasis on gifted education that includes the license. The two basic introductory courses EGT 512 (exploring the nature and needs of gifted students) and EGT513 (curriculum, instruction and assessment for gifted and talented students) will be of value and useful to any educator since most gifted students spend most of their time in general education classrooms. Counselors as well as administrators ( either at the building or the central office level) will find these courses useful professional development or as electives in other graduate programs. Masters of Education with a Specialization in Organizational Leadership is offered in a blended format with some courses offered fully online, some in a blended format, and others in face-to-face formats. The program is an interdisciplinary course of study drawing from the Colleges of Business, Urban Affairs, Liberal Arts and Sciences, and Education and Human Services. Graduates of this program will be able to make executive decisions as school leaders having learned best leadership practices from other fields. Graduates, who have successfully completed the 39 credit program and who have passed the required Praxis II exam, may be endorsed for principal licensure through Cleveland State University. The Online Master of Science in Health Sciences (MSHS) is a post-professional degree designed to prepare individuals for emerging leadership roles in the rapidly changing health care environment and to enhance opportunities for career advancement. Emphasis is on independent, self-directed learning and the development of diverse roles. This program is intended for practicing health care professionals who want to enhance their career options and achieve increased excellence in the provision of patient services. Students will learn to identify and analyze emerging practice issues, to articulate strategies and to measure outcomes. They also will position themselves to take on the added responsibilities expected of care providers in today's rapidly changing service environment. All online courses are offered through a structure called Blackboard CE. In addition, supplementary materials in other media (e.g., CDs, videocassettes) may be provided for some courses. eLearning courses and programs come in different sizes.

eLearning courses can be totally ONLINE where you complete all coursework via the web with no required face-to-face meetings.

Some courses are offered in a BLENDED format that combines some required face-to-face meetings with online activities.

Some courses are offered via INTERACTIVE VIDEO DISTANCE LEARNING (IVDL) using two-way, closed-circuit television.

The Online Master of Science in Nursing (MSN): Forensic Track is a program structured so that students will receive the core courses in the MSN: Specialized Populations major along with a strong foundation through other course work in the care of victims/perpetrators of trauma and/or death due to criminal acts or traumatic events. The students will acquire an in-depth knowledge and skill that interfaces nursing with the law, forensic science, law enforcement, mental health, and the health care and judicial systems. Nance College of Business M.B.A. Pre-Requisite Courses are now offered online. Students seeking to earn the M.B.A. program must complete courses in Basic Skill Proficiency and Basic Business Knowledge, based on recent undergraduate work, in order to register for Level III M.B.A. courses. These 500 level pre-requisites are now offered online to help students complete essential pre-requisites on a timely schedule. The R.N. to B.S.N. Completion Program will now offer the nursing core courses online. Students must complete all prerequisites and general education requirements prior to entry. The 28-hour sequence of nursing courses required for the degree are offered either online or as clinical experiences. See the nursing program requirements for more information.

The B.S. in Health Sciences is now offered online with the exception of the capstone course. The Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences (BSHS) is designed for students who are interested in pursuing a health-related career.  Programs of study either prepare students to enter a graduate program in a specific healthcare field, such as physical therapy, occupational therapy, podiatry, or physician assistant science, or prepare students to enter a health-related field or to develop skills and knowledge that will prepare them to work in healthcare generally. The Philosophy Department's Graduate Certificate and Undergraduate Certificate in Bioethics are offered completely online. Students are not required to come to campus. Topics include Clinical Bioethics, Policy, and Moral Reasoning. Details about this program are available at the program description and requirements.

The Maxine Goodman Levin College of Urban Affairs offers a Graduate Certificate in Research Administration through an intensive online curriculum of five mandatory courses. This certification provides the core competencies that help practitioners address the challenges and opportunities facing research administrators, such as changing mandates, ethical dilemmas, international issues, and budgeting priorities. The program also can assist experienced administrators from higher education, health care, government, business, and the nonprofit sector. Cleveland State University and the University of Akron present an innovative Master's program in Social Work exclusively taught through distance learning via two-way interactive video. The mission of the Joint Master's Degree in Social Work program is to prepare students for specialized, advanced-level, self-critical, accountable, and autonomous practice with oppressed, at risk, and vulnerable populations. The program provides a rigorous intellectual base, an opportunity for effective skill development, and an educational perspective that views human diversity as desirable and enriching to society. Students are equipped with the knowledge, skills, and values appropriate to the social work profession, the conceptual base of professional social work, the broad-based research strategies of the field, and the various social work roles and intervention strategies used in social work practice.
