Students Experience the Middle East through Unique “Map Walk” on February 13

What: Dr. Stephen Cory, assistant professor of Middle Eastern history, will present a “map walk” as a unique way for students to get a better sense of the Middle East and surrounding areas.

The event is open to any interested students or members of the community.

Dr. Cory has large pilot maps covering the entire Middle East and North Africa, as well as portions of sub-Saharan Africa, Central Asia, Southeast Asia and South Asia. The maps will be spread out on the floor of Woodling Gym, allowing participating students to walk around on them and get a better feel for the geographical layout of the region.

The maps show cities and towns as well as principal roads, railroads, pipelines, power lines and distinctive landmarks. They also identify elevations and contours. By walking on the maps, students are provided with a better understanding of the Middle East through the relationship between the territories in terms of distance, geographical barriers and ease of access

When: Wednesday, February 13, 9:30 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Where: CSU’s Physical Education Building, 2451 Euclid Ave.
