Cleveland State University’s Fenn College of Engineering will host an Open House for more than 70 local high school students that participate in the Fenn Academy, a pre-engineering initiative that is a partnership of local high schools, engineering firms and the Fenn College of Engineering. The program will be held on Saturday, February 9, from 9:00 a.m. until Noon in Room 201 of CSU’s Main Classroom Building at East 22nd Street and Euclid Avenue. Parking is available in Lot G, located on East 22nd Street between Chester and Euclid Avenues.
At the event, the University’s Director of Undergraduate Admissions Mark A. Nazario will announce that all students who participate in the Fenn Academy will have their fee for application to Cleveland State University waived.
Participating students are in grades 9 through 12 and represent more than 30 local high schools that belong to the Fenn Academy. Those students who are interested in learning more about educational and career opportunities in engineering will have the opportunity to be matched with a local engineering professional for an Engineer for a Day Job Shadowing Program that will take place at the conclusion of National Engineers’ Week on Friday, February 22. This event is sponsored by more than 25 local engineering companies and government organizations including First Energy, Middough Consulting, NASA, Rockwell Automation, the Ohio Department of Transportation, and more.
This Saturday’s open house will provide participating students and their parents the opportunity to learn more about Cleveland State, the Fenn College of Engineering, the admissions and financial aid process, scholarships, and cooperative education programs. CSU students, faculty and staff will be available to assist students and their parents with information, answer questions, and provide campus and engineering college tours.
This event is part of a national effort to increase the number of students seeking an engineering degree. It will demonstrate to students the real-world applications of math, science and technology to the engineering profession as well as the positive impact of engineering in today’s world.
Students must pre-register for the Engineer for a Day Job Shadowing Program. For further details about Fenn Academy or the undergraduate admissions application fee waiver, call Gregg Schoof, manager of Engineering Student Programs at CSU’s Fenn College of Engineering, at 216.687.5272.
