Psychology is a field of study that covers a broad spectrum of concepts with real-world applications. Despite the breadth of their boundaries, an occupation in psychology is more than a the stereoytical psychologist with a notepad listening to a troubled individual on a couch! The faculty of the Psychology Department at Cleveland State University consists of many outstanding scholars, several of which are nationally and internationally recognized experts in a variety of areas.
The Department has an
honors program for highly qualified students, and has five different areas of specialization in which one can obtain a Master of Arts degree. A doctoral program in Adult Development and Aging developed in collaboration with the University of Akron has recently been approved by the Ohio Board of Regents, and we will begin accepting students into the program for the Fall 2008 academic year.
The Department is one of the few at CSU that offers a major that can be obtained by taking all coursework in psychology in the evening. The Council of Graduate Departments of Psychology (COGDOP) is a society constituted of Chairs and Heads of Departments of Psychology or other equivalent administrative units which are authorized to offer graduate degrees in psychology in institutions accredited by their regional accrediting association.
The Federation of Behavioral, Psychological and Cognitive Sciences (FBPCS) is an association of scientific societies with interests in basic research on problems of behavior, psychology, language, education, knowledge systems and their psychological, behavioral, and physiological bases.
Trainers of School Psychologists (TSP) is committed to innovation and excellence in graduate training programs for specialist and doctoral school psychologists. Our purpose is to foster high quality training in school psychology programs. We work toward this goal by examining current trends in graduate education programs, providing professional growth opportunities to school psychology faculty, facilitating communication with field based supervisors, and supporting legislative efforts that promote excellence in training.
