For Students Who Have Been Displaced From Their Home Country Due to War, Conflict or Disaster

On April 17, 2009, the Chancellor of the Ohio Department of Higher Education signed Directive 2009-011 which allows Cleveland State to reduce the out-of-state or international surcharge to $1 per term for any student who has been displaced from their home country due to war, conflict or disaster.

A student can provide a letter of explanation supporting their request to the Bursar's Office at bursar@csuohio.edu.  An approved reduction can remain in effect for a full academic year (Fall / Spring / Summer).  Only students who have complied with immigration laws and have proper documentation proving their valid status, as required by the Department of Homeland Security are eligible for a tuition reduction.  All information will be validated with the Center for International Services and Programs.

  • Student must provide an APPROVED status-designation of either "Refugee" or "Asylee" on your Arrival-Departure Record (I-94)
  • This process is only for tuition surcharge waiver requests for students that are asylees, refugees, and students on a temporary protected status (TPS) as a result of a current world situation involving war, conflict, or disasters.
  • International students holding an F-1 student visa are NOT eligible under this waiver program.
