BFSO Scholarships

Our scholarship fund was created for the Curtis Wilson Scholarship. Later two additional funds were created. The Wanda Coleman and Frank Adams Scholarships, each with its own criteria. The committee administers the awarding of our three scholarships. Below you will find background on the awards ad links to the application.

Curtis Wilson Freshman Scholarship

Professor Curtis Wilson was the former director of the Black Studies Program and Assistant Professor of History at Cleveland State University. He was a tireless advocate for students and served as an advisor to several student organizations; including CSU Organization for African American student newspaper. His culinary skills were legendary, and members of campus community looked forward to the annual spring barbecues that he coordinated for "Greek Week" and "Spring Fest" activities. At CSU he designed courses on the history of jazz and the history of African American music in general. He was in the process of writing a book, The Blues: Voices of the Underclass.

Frank C. Adams Cutural Award

For students with demonstrated artistic ability, the Frank Adams Scholarship is open to currently enrolled students at Cleveland State University who have earned at least 24 credit hours. Employees of Cleveland State University, spouses of employees, and children or dependents of employees are not eligible to apply for this scholarship. This scholarship is a tuition-only based scholarship. The scholarship will not be awarded to a student who receives other
scholarship funds that cover the full cost of tuition.

Wanda M. Coleman Continuing Student Award

Wanda M. Coleman was employed in a dual capacity at Cleveland State University, Program Specialist for the Office of Minority Affairs and Human Relations and Coordinator for Alumni Affairs. In keeping with Coleman's student-centered approach to her work, she and five other representatives of Cleveland State University attended the funeral of slain Cleveland State University basketball star, Jamal Jackson. On August 24, 1995, as they returned from Boston, Wanda M. Coleman was involved in a fatal car accident. Hundreds mourned her untimely death.
