Cleveland State University’s #BeSafeCLEstate campaign is a comprehensive advertising and social media effort designed to raise awareness among CSU community members and promote safe behavior campus-wide. The initiative, which began in January, will launch its fall campaign today to coincide with the start of the new academic year. This will include a series of informational videos, weekly safety tips and training sessions for community members.

“CSU takes the safety of our community very seriously and this effort seeks to insure an enjoyable and safe environment for students, faculty, staff and visitors,” notes Gary Lewis, chief of the CSU Police Department. “#BeSafeCLEstate seeks to make everyone aware of how they can assist in protecting themselves and the campus as a whole.”

The campaign will include the release of weekly safety tips, residence hall meetings with CSU police officers and the PD’s informal “Coffee with a Cop” sessions in the CSU Student Center. Messages will be posted on digital boards throughout campus and promoted through CSU’s social media channels, including Facebook and Twitter. New this year, the campaign will unveil a series of videos featuring Magnus the mascot which will provide actionable pointers on everything from CSU’s 24/7 safety escort service to pedestrian safety to theft prevention.

“By making the campaign more interactive and engaging we hope to further disseminate the messages and help make more people informed,” Lewis says. “Our ultimate goal is to enlist the entire campus community in making CSU safe.”

To follow the campaign on social media use the #BeSafeCLEstate hashtag. For more information about the effort and the CSU Police Department’s additional initiatives visit, www.csuohio.edu/police.
