Cleveland State University Exceeds Enrollment Projections Across Key Student Groups

Fall 2024 figures reinforce CSU’s strength in attracting and supporting a diverse range of scholars

Cleveland State University’s (CSU) Fall 2024 enrollment numbers showcase a rise in new Vikings across several key student groups.

According to the latest University census, Cleveland State welcomed almost 2,800 new undergraduate students, more than 1,000 new graduate students and more than 200 new law students at the beginning of the 2024-25 academic year, contributing to a total enrollment of 14,210 students.

  • Class of 2028: The number of students joining CSU’s latest class of first-year students is up from Fall 2023, with domestic numbers increasing by nearly four percent. The Washkewicz College of Engineering saw increases across most of its renowned programs, with Chemical Engineering leading the way. The College of Arts and Sciences also experienced substantial gains in its Studio Art, Film & Media Arts and Psychology degree programs.

  • Transfer students: The incoming transfer student cohort surged by 12.5 percent as the University welcomed 100 more transfer students than this time last year—underscoring CSU’s reputation as a welcoming and supportive environment for students transitioning from other institutions of higher education.

  • Honors College: The Jack, Joseph & Morton Mandel Honors College saw double the usual number of incoming first-year students, plus a 28 percent increase in transfer admissions for upper-division Honors students.

  • Graduate students: Domestic graduate enrollment also saw strong gains, including a 23 percent jump in online program enrollment. This increase makes clear the growing demand for CSU’s flexible, high-quality graduate offerings, such as its Master of Science in Nursing – Family Nurse Practitioner and its Master of Education in Adult, Professional & Higher Education degree programs.

“We are CSU, proudly serving as the link between our students and our community partners,” said Cleveland State President Laura Bloomberg, Ph.D. “The majority of CSU grads stay in our region and become significant contributors to Northeast Ohio’s economy and major industries. They strengthen our communities. The rise in our first-year and transfer student enrollment, along with growth in our online graduate programs, reflect Cleveland State’s ongoing commitment to providing excellent learning opportunities for all students, no matter where they are in their respective educational journeys.”
