Cleveland State University is one of the top universities in the United States for veterans, according to the Military Times in its Best for Vets: Colleges 2021 rankings.

Best for Vets ranked CSU 2nd among public universities in Ohio and 20th in the nation among four-year institutions, confirming that the university is a top choice for veterans and active-duty military personnel pursuing their education.

“As a veteran myself, I understand what it takes to prioritize supporting our veterans and active-duty service members,” said Cleveland State University President Harlan Sands. “It’s gratifying to be recognized for providing the tools and resources they need to succeed both in and outside of the classroom.”

The Best for Vets ranking is considered the most comprehensive school-by-school assessment of veteran and military student services and their rates of academic achievement. It is formulated from an annual survey of colleges and universities and data from the U.S. Departments of Education and Veterans Affairs. The study evaluates a wide array of services, accommodations and financial incentives offered to students with military ties and explores the culture for veterans on a campus.

Cleveland State’s Veteran & Military Success Center empowers, engages and advocates for the success of all military-connected students. The program recognizes that attending college after serving in the military – or being a military-connected family member – is a transitional process for many.

The center offers veteran-specific orientation, individualized support and mentoring through the Veteran Student Success Program, academic and career assistance, veteran led student organizations and a 4,000 square foot facility that includes a dayroom, computer lab, study space and kitchen. CSU is also one of only three universities in Ohio that partners with the Department of Veteran Affairs to host a Vet Success on Campus counselor that can provide assistance with VA education and career programs and benefits.
