Computer Science Program Achieves ABET Accreditation
Cleveland State University’s computer science program has been accredited by the Computing Accreditation Commission of ABET, the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology.
ABET is a nonprofit, non-governmental organization recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation. Accreditation by ABET designates that a program “has met standards essential to produce graduates ready to enter the critical fields of STEM education.”
“Graduates from an ABET-accredited program have a solid educational foundation and are capable of leading the way in innovation, emerging technologies, and in anticipating the welfare and safety needs of the public,” ABET notes.
CSU’s computer science program is only the second in Northeast Ohio to achieve ABET accreditation.
“When choosing an engineering or a computer science program, students should investigate first of all whether the program is accredited, particularly ABET-accredited. Many employers look for a degree from a properly accredited program,” says Professor Chansu Yu, chair of CSU’s Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Department.
