CSU Hosts 22nd People’s Art Show, October 28 – December 8
The People’s Art Show is a tradition unique to Cleveland State University. The biannual exhibit began as a populist experiment in 1983 with the idea of showcasing works of art created by ordinary people in a professional art gallery. The experiment was a huge success and over the past three-plus decades has become an essential event for both the campus community and the region as a whole.
The 22nd edition of the People’s Art Show will run October 28 through December 8 at the Galleries at CSU in Cleveland’s Playhouse Square, 1307 Euclid Avenue. An opening night reception which is free and open to the public, will be held at the Galleries from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, October 28.
“The People’s Art Show is open to all, and accepting of everything,” notes Robert Th??rmer, director of the Galleries at CSU. “It is a celebration of creativity, diversity, and imagination, of freedom of thought and self-expression. The public are called upon to contemplate and evaluate each entry and understand and appreciate each work of art on its own terms.”
The Galleries at CSU seek to educate, edify, and involve all of its diverse audiences by presenting exhibitions and related programs that promote the understanding of art and its relationship to society. The Galleries also serve as an academic laboratory for the study, contemplation, and critical analysis of works of art and their context. It is open Tuesday through Thursday, 12pm to 5pm, and Friday and Saturday, 12pm to 7pm. For more information visit, www.csuohio.edu/class/art-gallery.
