CSU Mourns the Passing of Former Board Chair Henry J. Goodman
Cleveland State University mourns the passing of Henry J. Goodman, whose legacy of leadership, volunteerism and philanthropy will continue to impact lives and the Northeast Ohio community.
Goodman’s service, counsel and forward thinking helped shape the University of today. As a nine-year member of the CSU Board of Trustees, including five years as chairman, he spearheaded many achievements -- the opening of Viking residence Hall, Krenzler soccer field, the Music and Communication building and Wolstein Center; the creation of doctoral programs in urban education and business administration; redevelopment of the East 17th/18thblock; and much more. Wolstein Center’s Goodman Arena bears his name.
Goodman was an initiator of Keyboard Conversations, a unique concert-plus-commentary program featuring Jeffrey Siegel, now in its 31styear at CSU. He also was an avid fan and supporter ofVikings basketball, attending every home game as a Big Green member.
CSU awarded Goodman an honorary doctor of humane letters degree in 2008. He continued to be a valued friend to the University and its students long after his board service concluded.
A respected civic leader, he served on the boards of the Jewish Federation of Cleveland, United Way, the Cleveland Foundation, the Cleveland Orchestra and many other organizations.
Memorial gifts may be made to the CSU Foundation, 2121 Euclid Ave., UN 501, Cleveland, Ohio 44115 in support of the CSU Center for Arts and Innovation, as well as to the Jewish Federation of Cleveland.
