Funds will support tuition and living expenses for female and minority students studying engineering and business at CSU

CLEVELAND (July 21, 2021) – Cleveland State University announces a new partnership with TransDigm Group Inc. The company will provide scholarship funds through the Doug Peacock Scholarship Program to support tuition and on-campus housing needs for female and underrepresented minority engineering and business students at CSU.

TransDigm, headquartered in Cleveland, is a global producer, designer and supplier of highly engineered aerospace components, systems and subsystems.

Over the course of five years, the Doug Peacock Scholarship Fund will provide more than 80 student awards in total. The annual scholarships are renewable for up to five years of the recipients’ undergraduate education. The scholarship awards will be divided equally between CSU’s Washkewicz College of Engineering and the Monte Ahuja College of Business.

“On behalf of Cleveland State, we thank TransDigm for providing life-changing opportunities for our students in need,” CSU president Harlan Sands said. “This partnership not only helps advance our student success initiatives and supports our engaged learning, but also is a great example of how we can closely partner with the community as an anchor institution.”

The amount awarded per student will vary because the funds are intended as tuition and room/board balanced scholarships; funds will be applied to the students’ outstanding balance due of tuition and room/board expenses that are not covered by additional scholarships, grants or other financial aid awards.

“CSU and TransDigm are aligned in our commitment to developing and promoting a talented and diverse future workforce. With an increasingly global economy, the development of a diverse workforce leads to better innovation, decisions, and outcomes for everyone,” said Kevin Stein, TransDigm Group’s president and CEO. “Assisting students in our community who might not otherwise have the resources to continue developing their skillsets through postsecondary educational opportunities is an important initiative for TransDigm. We are honored to contribute through the Doug Peacock Scholarship Program.”

“Partnerships with businesses like TransDigm not only create key connections in the business community, they build foundational support for our students,” said Kenneth B. Kahn, dean, Monte Ahuja College of Business at Cleveland State. “The scholarship helps us deliver on our vision to be the Northeast Ohio’s business cornerstone and serve the community at-large providing business-ready talent.”

“The Doug Peacock Scholarship provides much-needed immediate support to our students, to help them complete their degree and contribute to our regional economy,” said Joanne Belovich, interim dean, CSU’s Washkewicz College of Engineering.

The scholarship program is named in honor of Doug Peacock, the founding CEO and Chairman of the Board of TransDigm. Peacock co-founded TransDigm along with Nick Howley in 1993.
