Internationally-known dancer/choreographer joins CSU Dance for fall semester

The Cleveland State University Dance Program is proud to present dance artist and hometown favorite Antonio Brown in an eight-week residency.  Brown is a Cleveland native who studied at the Cleveland School of the Arts and the Juilliard School. A member of Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Company for over a decade, he is now the founder and artistic director of Antonio Brown Dance. Brown will direct Studio Sessions - a special event series offered FREE and OPEN to the Cleveland Dance Community.

The series includes Friday evening Master Classes for area dancers held on Oct. 18, 25 and Nov. 1 from 5 p.m. – 6:30 pm. Antonio will also be teaching technique classes for the CSU Dance Program and creating a new piece for the CSU Dance Company, which will be performed in the CSU Spring Dance Concert in April. An additional highlight of Brown’s residency will be his workshop with local high school students on Wednesday evenings, Oct. 23 to Dec. 4 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 pm. He will introduce participants to his unique take on contemporary dance styles, blending traditional technique with hip hop and other social dance forms to create a dance/theater piece.  There will also be an informal showing of Studio Sessions at the CSU Arts Campus on December 6 at 5:00 pm.

All activities will be held in the CSU Dance Studio, (CSU Arts Campus, 1901 E. 13th Street, Cleveland, Ohio  44114). For more information contact Lynn Deering at dance@csuohio.edu or visit www.csuohio.edu/dance.
