CSU Receives INSIGHT Into Diversity’s 2016 HEED Award
Cleveland State University has been awarded the 2016 Higher Education Excellence in Diversity (HEED) Award from INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine. The honor recognizes U.S. colleges and universities that demonstrate an outstanding commitment to diversity and inclusion through academics, operations and community engagement. This is the third year in a row CSU has been selected as a HEED recipient.
“We are extraordinarily honored to receive this award, particularly because it highlights the priority we place on Inclusive Excellence in all aspects of campus,” notes Byron White, CSU’s Vice President for University Engagement and Chief Diversity Officer. “Diversity is among the most distinguishing qualities at Cleveland State. It is not an aspiration – it is simply who we are.”
INSIGHT Into Diversity selected CSU due to its strong institutional resources supporting diversity and inclusion and its wide range of programs designed to provide a welcoming and supportive environment for all students, faculty and staff. Examples of this commitment include the establishment of the Office of Inclusion and Multicultural Engagement, which provides institutional oversight and support, the President's Council on Diversity and individual college and non-academic diversity councils.
“The HEED Award’s standards are high, and we look for institutions where diversity and inclusion are woven into the work being accomplished every day across their campus,” says Lenore Pearlstein, publisher of INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine.
