SOD Eleanor Kidd

Although Commencement has passed, CSU continues to celebrate graduating students who have overcome obstacles, made significant achievements or are fulfilling Cleveland State University’s mission in or outside the classroom.

Today, we celebrate Eleanor Kidd, who is graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in sociology and criminology, along with a minor in studio art.

CSU: Have you had any significant internships/co-ops/careers while at CSU?

EK: During my time at Cleveland State University, I have had the opportunity to gain meaningful professional experience through my role as an Arts Campus Intern in the Office of Admissions. In this position, I represented the university to prospective students and their families, helping them navigate the college selection process and better understand the opportunities available at CSU. This role allowed me to develop strong communication and interpersonal skills while also contributing to the university’s recruitment efforts.

Additionally, I served as the Orientation Leader Manager, where I helped oversee orientation programming and supported incoming students during their transition to college. This role strengthened my leadership and organizational abilities and allowed me to play a direct role in shaping the first experiences new students have at CSU. Together, these experiences have prepared me for future professional opportunities and reinforced my interest in a career centered on service, communication, and leadership.

CSU: How would you describe the connections you have made with the faculty and staff at CSU?

EK: The connections I have made with faculty and staff at CSU have been both meaningful and impactful. Through my academic experience and my work in the Office of Admissions, I have built relationships with individuals who are deeply committed to student success. Faculty members have challenged me to think critically and engage more deeply with my coursework, particularly in my sociology and criminology classes, where I developed a stronger understanding of social systems and justice. At the same time, the professional staff in the admissions office have served as mentors, encouraging my professional growth and supporting me as I stepped into leadership roles.

CSU: How has Cleveland State inspired you for your future?

EK: CSU has played a significant role in shaping both my academic interests and my future aspirations. Through my studies in sociology and criminology, I developed a deeper understanding of the relationship between law, society, and social systems, which ultimately solidified my decision to pursue a legal education. CSU has also given me the confidence to take control of my own path and pursue my goals with purpose. I plan to attend law school after graduation and continue building a career focused on justice, advocacy, and public service.

CSU: How do you think you have fulfilled the CSU’s mission?

EK: CSU’s mission emphasizes opportunity, engagement and service to the community. Throughout my time at CSU, I have worked to embody these values through both my academic and extracurricular involvement. Through my role in the Office of Admissions, I contributed to expanding access to higher education by helping prospective students learn about the opportunities available at CSU. As Orientation Leader Manager, I supported incoming students during a critical transition period, helping them feel welcomed and prepared to succeed.

CSU: Do you have a career lined up, and how has CSU been instrumental in that process?

EK: While I have not yet begun my career, I have a clear path forward and a strong sense of direction shaped by my experiences at CSU. I received my letter of acceptance from Case Law and plan to attend this upcoming fall.

Congratulations, Eleanor!
