Cleveland State University’s Sandra English has been elected the Conference for Industry and Education Collaboration’s (CIEC) general chair for 2021 and will be the assistant general conference chair for 2020.

Four divisions of the American Society of Engineering Education (ASEE) collaborate to organize the conference each year. It is dedicated to all disciplines of engineering education and will include workshops, technical sessions, training and a plenary emphasizing the long and mutually beneficial partnerships between education, industry and government.

English is the past chair for the Cooperative and Experiential Education Division, which is one of the four organizers of CIEC. It has been over 50 years since someone from CSU has been elected to the CIEC management team.

“I am personally honored to be elected CIEC General Conference Chair of the American Society of Engineering Education,” English says. “This division brings together industry and educational representatives from all over the country. To represent Cleveland State University and the Washkewicz College of Engineering on a national scale is a privilege.”

English is the senior manager for the Center for Engineering Experiential Learning. She became the coordinator of the engineering cooperative education program at CSU in 2012 and became manager of the program in 2013. Prior to that, she was assistant director of law admission and multicultural recruitment at the Cleveland-Marshall College of Law. English received the 2018 Ohio Cooperative Education Association’s Educator of the Year Award. She also received the 2018 Alvah K. Borman Award from the CEED Division of ASEE, which is the highest honor given for commitment and service to engineering experiential education.
