Dance/USA Conference Comes to Cleveland, June 12-15
National event is co-hosted by CSU
The Dance/USA Annual Conference, a national convening that celebrates American dance, comes to Cleveland June 12-15. The gathering of national and international dance professionals, which is being co-hosted by Cleveland State University, will feature workshops, performances, panel discussions and symposia highlighting the breadth and depth of American dance.
“The conference travels to a different city each year, highlighting the unique vibrancy of dance communities around the nation, offering new inspiration and showcasing the host city’s arts and dance ecosystem,” says Lynn Deering, chair of the Department of Theater and Dance at CSU. “We are extremely honored to have the opportunity to showcase CSU and the Cleveland arts community to a national dance audience, while interacting with the top professionals in the field.”
The Department of Theater and Dance will host conference breakout sessions and workshops at the University’s Arts Campus in Playhouse Square. The CSU Dance Company and dance alumni will also participate in the conference’s Dance Showcase at KeyBank State Theatre. In addition, participants in CSU’s annual Summer Dance Workshop, which provides professional-level dance training to students and community members, will be able to attend the conference for no additional cost.
“CSU prides itself on its connection to the community and the wealth of Engaged Learning opportunities it offers its students,” Deering adds. “The Dance/USA Conference gives us the opportunity to meet both of those goals simultaneously.”
The conference is presented by Dance/USA, the national service organization for professional dance. Established in 1982, Dance/USA champions an inclusive and equitable dance field by leading, convening, advocating, and supporting individuals and organizations in dance and the arts. Dance/USA’s core programs are focused in the areas of engagement, advocacy, research, and preservation.
