ENGAGE: The Campaign for Cleveland State University Exceeds $100 Million
Will provide essential support for scholarships and student success initiatives
Cleveland State University launched the public phase of ENGAGE: The Campaign for Cleveland State University in May of 2015 with the goal of raising $100 million to assist in providing the additional support necessary to help students graduate on time and with less debt. Just two years later the campaign has surpassed that number with over $114 million raised thanks to the generous support of a host of individuals, foundations and organizations who share CSU’s commitment to community engagement, student success and engaged learning. The announcement was made September 14 at CSU’s annual donor recognition event.
“Cleveland State University is dedicated to providing the academic guidance, career support and financial assistance that helps our students earn their degrees on time and assists them in becoming productive community leaders,” says Ronald M. Berkman, president of CSU. “ENGAGE has been essential in helping us provide the support necessary to accomplish these goals, particularly for our most needy students.”
The Campaign was co-chaired by Monte Ahuja, CSU alum and founder and CEO of Transtar Industries, and Donald Washkewicz, fellow alumnus and former CEO of Parker Hannifin Corporation. Donors to the effort included numerous CSU alumni, community leaders, foundations and corporations both in and outside of the Northeast Ohio region. All told, 22 donors supported the campaign at the $1 million level or higher, and over half of the dollars raised was specifically targeted at scholarships for students.
“I would like to thank all of the donors who assisted with this effort for the ultimate benefit of our students and our community as a whole,” Berkman adds.
