Infant Movements Are Focus of CSU/Cleveland Clinic Conference
Even before babies begin to crawl, what can their movements reveal about potential neuromotor dysfunction?
Nearly 50 health-care professionals from across the country explored this topic during a conference held August 6-9 in Cleveland State University’s new Center for Innovation in Medical Professions.
Co-presented by CSU and the Cleveland Clinic, the event offered rare continuing-education courses rooted in the work of the late Dr. Heinz Prechtl, an influential Austrian developmental neurologist. He observed that for babies five months old or younger, the “general movements” of typical infants differ from those of infants at risk for cerebral palsy and other developmental disorders.
