Levin College, Mandel Foundation Create University PSEIR Program
Mandel Foundation Grant to Create Public Service Executive in Residence (PSEIR) Program in CSU’s Levin College of Public Affairs
Cleveland, Ohio (February 9, 2023)—Cleveland State University (CSU) students, faculty and staff will have the opportunity to learn from an experienced former elected official or public affairs leader, thanks to the generosity of the Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel Foundation.
A $605,250 grant from the foundation will create the Mandel Public Service Executive in Residence (PSEIR) program in CSU’s Levin College of Public Affairs and Education.
The newly formed college brings together the Maxine Goodman Levin College of Urban Affairs, the School of Communication, the Department of Criminology and Sociology, and the College of Education and Human Services. CSU’s Public Affairs Program has long been recognized as one of the best in the country by US News & World Report and other college rankings.
According to Roland Anglin, Ph.D., Dean of the Levin College, the formation of the new college and this new investment from the Mandel Foundation will position the Levin College to become an even greater force in public affairs.
“The generosity of the Mandel Foundation will allow us to attract a senior leader who will help us embrace the full range of our expanded mission and advance our new college’s leadership and administrative capacity,” Dr. Anglin said.
“The Mandel Foundation understands the need for developing leaders who can help improve communities. They also know how our college can benefit from senior leaders who have made an impact in the world of practice, and can bring their skills and acumen to training the next generation of public and nonprofit leaders.”
The three-year grant will allow the Levin College to recruit an experienced leader who has held a major elected or appointed public office. The competitive selection process will target leaders who are in the phase of their career where they can be a reflective practitioner, teach, be a presence in regional public affairs, and help develop resources to grow the Levin College.
“The Mandel Foundation is pleased to support Cleveland State and Levin College during a time of great transformation. This meaningful investment will help to grow the capacity of an institution that plays an important role in our region’s civic engagement and leadership development,” said Jehuda Reinharz, Ph.D., President and CEO of the Mandel Foundation.
