Marathons, Festivals, and Swim Meets Oh My! A busy weekend ahead in Downtown Cleveland

As the weather progresses towards warmer temperatures and the season shifts to summer, plenty of activities will occur outdoors in Cleveland. Count this weekend as a preview of the hustle and bustle to come. And with it, there are some traffic flow and parking concerns to be mindful of:

Our campus district will see a lot of action this weekend and it all kicks off bright and early with the Union Home Mortgage Cleveland Marathon, taking place Saturday and Sunday morning. Some street closures include Euclid and Superior Avenues, along with East 21st and 22nd, going into effect from 7:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. For a complete list of closures, please click here. Race officials and law enforcement officers will also be stationed at all major intersections during the marathon. Please use these representatives as resources if you need help, have difficulties, or have questions. Please call the ambassador line at 216-621-6000 to request all our usual services.

The Cleveland Asian Festival, part of the city's honoring of Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, will also be in full swing Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at 2999 Payne Avenue. The free event, celebrating Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, includes live entertainment, cultural performances, an array of food, and local and beyond in a one-of-a-kind World Marketplace. Free parking is being provided at CSU parking lots located at East 24th and Payne Avenue (lots #50, 54, 56, and 57), where a free bus shuttle will take eventgoers to the festival.

A week after honoring Doctoral, Graduate, and Undergraduate students, the CSU College of Law Commencement Ceremony will occur Sunday, May 21, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Wolstein Center. Those honored include Valedictorian Camille D. Pollutro, and Dean’s Learn Law Live Justice Award Recipient Katheryn Hach.

Finally, the Cleveland Robert F. Busbey Invitational swim meet featuring teams from across Northeast Ohio is taking place at Busbey Natatorium Saturday and Sunday, with 600 guests expected both days. Guests will be parking in the East Garage and Lot 54. If attending, please leave plenty of time to park and walk to the event, as there will likely be difficulty navigating to the pool and choosing parking options due to road closures each morning due to the Cleveland Marathon.
