American Council on Education prepares future higher education leaders

Cleveland State University Professor of Teacher Education Joanne Goodell has been named an ACE Fellow by the American Council on Education for 2015-2016.

The ACE Fellows Program, established in 1965, is designed to strengthen higher education by preparing emerging leaders for senior positions in college and university administration. Forty-seven Fellows, nominated by the senior administration of their institutions, were selected this year following a rigorous application process.

The ACE Fellows Program includes placement at another higher education institution for up to one year to accelerate leadership skills development.

"I am deeply honored to be representing Cleveland State University in this endeavor, and I am truly grateful to the university for allowing me the opportunity to do so. I am confident that I will bring valuable knowledge back to CSU that will enable us to make an even bigger impact on the futures of our students," said Goodell.

Nearly 2,000 higher education leaders have participated in the program, with more than 300 Fellows having served as chief executive officers of colleges or universities and more than 1,300 having served as provosts, vice presidents and deans.

"This award is an excellent reflection of the quality of our faculty at CSU. We are very proud of Professor Goodell's work and we are eager to learn from the results of her experience," said CSU Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs Deirdre M. Mageean, who nominated Dr. Goodell for the program.
