Cleveland State University’s 50th Anniversary just got a lot sweeter, thanks to Mitchell’s Ice Cream, which is ready to unveil a new ice cream flavor in honor of CSU’s golden anniversary.

Greens Turns Gold is a homemade toasted pistachio ice cream with a ribbon of rich, golden caramel.

This eagerly anticipated taste sensation will make its debut at the CSU 50th Anniversary Block Party, set for 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. Friday, September 19, at the heart of the CSU campus on Euclid Avenue and East 18th Street. Free samples of Green Turns Gold ice cream will be available at the event, which is free and open to the public.

The limited-edition ice cream flavor was crafted especially for CSU by Mitchell’s, a Cleveland-based company founded in 1999 by brothers Pete and Mike Mitchell. Known for its exemplary commitment to local ingredients and sustainability, Mitchell’s offers more than two dozen flavors of small-batch ice cream and other treats in its eight Greater Cleveland shops, as well as in select Northeast Ohio grocery stores.

Green Turns Gold will be available exclusively at CSU events and for sale on campus at the Fenn Shoppe and Outtakes. The flavor also will occasionally be offered on the menu in CSU’s Viking Marketplace dining hall.

In addition to world-premiere ice cream, the CSU 50th Anniversary Block Party will feature food available for purchase from some of Northeast Ohio’s most popular food trucks, live music and fireworks. As part of the festivities, former CSU basketball standout Norris Cole, now with the Miami Heat, will lead the CSU Homecoming “Parade of the Decades” from the CSU Student Center on Euclid Avenue to East 18th Street.

The block party and parade are part of CSU’s Green Turns Gold Weekend, which also will include the CSU Distinguished Alumni Awards ceremony on September 18, among other events. The weekend marks the official start of a yearlong 50th anniversary celebration by CSU, which was founded in 1964. Please visit www.csuohio.edu/50 for more information.
