For Teachers

The Center for Computing Education and Instruction at Cleveland State University (CSU) is a valued partner among teachers, schools and districts across the state of Ohio. Since 2014, we have trained nearly 170 teachers in computer science (CS) education, including more than 80 Cleveland Metropolitan School District (CMSD) teachers at 65 different schools as well as teachers from 33 other school districts across Ohio. This network is a valuable support system that continues to grow.

Whether you are just starting your CS journey or have pursued CS professional development in the past, we are here to support you every step of the way. The needs, desires and dreams of our learners-both educators and K-12 students-are central to our work. Your success is our success.

In January 2024, the state designated CSU as one of 17 education institutions in Ohio to provide grants to K-12 teachers seeking to become qualified to teach CS and/or seeking continuing education in CS.

Advantages of Working with Us

  • As a Teach CS university, we are able to help cover the costs of your CS endorsement, licensure or continuing education.

  • We know how to find and build on your strengths

  • We offer access to a network of educators across the state.

What we offer

  1. CS Education Endorsement Program. CS Endorsement qualifies teachers to teach any high school CS course. It is for teachers who want to teach CS and would like the full endorsement added to their current license. The requirements for this are completing a series of courses at CSU and passing the Ohio Assessment for Educators (OAE) 054 exam.
