Experiencing Trauma

Trauma is an emotional response that occurs when one experiences an extremely distressing event.  It is a normal reaction to an abnormal event.  Trauma can occur when something extremely distressing happens directly to us (such as being physically assaulted) or when we witness something extremely distressing (such as witnessing the violent death of another person).  Trauma can sometimes lead to more serious issues such as the development of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

If you are currently experiencing trauma, you can receive help from Cleveland State University’s Counseling Center.  Please call us at 216-687-2277 to arrange to speak with a counselor.
