Center for Computing Education and Instruction

Supplemental CS License

What It Is

Our predecessor, CSforCLE, designed a rigorous pathway to prepare in-service, licensed educators to teach CS and CS-related courses and obtain supplemental state licensure in CS. The pathway is designed to provide curriculum support, OAE 054 exam preparation, access to professional learning communities, and continuous support for professional development.

Details

Educators will complete roughly 150 contact hours over the course of six months. The program includes the following:

  • One week of CS introduction and OAE Licensure preparation

  • One week of curriculum and professional development based on the grade level assignments of the teacher

  • UTeach Computer Science modules, created by the University of Texas at Austin, which offer self-paced courses to help educators prepare for exams through lessons and assessments centered on OAE 054 exam material

  • A CS Methods course designed to equip educators with the necessary tools and skills to effectively teach computer science in the classroom. This course satisfies the state’s licensure requirement for a CS methods course.

  • Two years of mentorship

Collectively, this series of experiences will guide educators across Ohio through a proven pathway to gain the skills and knowledge required to receive a CS Supplemental License while feeling comfortable with content and curriculum specific to their grade level.
