Eligibility Requirements

1. FIRST GENERATION COLLEGE STUDENT: Neither parent nor guardian received a Bachelor's degree
2. Low-income based on Federal income guidelines
3. Enrolled or accepted for enrollment at Cleveland State University
4. U.S. citizen and/or legal permanent resident
5. Demonstrated academic need as determined by TRIO-SSS

"TRIO has profoundly shaped my collegiate experience, especially as a first-generation college student. When I first arrived on campus, I felt overwhelmed and lost, unsure of where to turn for guidance. Joining TRIO halfway through my freshman year gave me the support I desperately needed. From receiving tutoring and success coaching in my early years to becoming a tutor and success coach in my junior and senior years, TRIO not only helped me succeed academically but also inspired me to take on leadership roles. It strengthened my bonds with others and allowed me to connect with a new network of students who, like me, come from similar backgrounds.

Beyond academics, TRIO provided me with opportunities to engage in fun events such as holiday and seasonal events, which created memories and friendships that will last long after graduation. The First Generation Center became a space where I could meet with friends, unwind, and build a sense of community. TRIO has truly been a cornerstone of my college journey, offering me resources, emotional support, and a sense of belonging. It has made my college life a bit less stressful and more enjoyable, and I will always credit TRIO for much of my success in college and my journey thereafter."
