9/3/2024: Core Curriculum Course Submission Workshop - Marcus R Schultz-Bergin | 11:30a12: 20p | Zoom

  • This workshop will focus on how to revise or design a course for the core curriculum, with an emphasis on how to complete the approval document and supporting documentation. A walkthrough of the approval document will be provided, and ample time will be provided for questions. Participants are encouraged to have at least one specific course in mind to refer to during the workshop.

    Are you new to the world of generative AI and curious about how it can support your work in higher education? This 50-minute workshop offers a beginner-friendly introduction to generative AI tools, focusing on ChatGPT and Microsoft CoPilot. Tailored for higher education faculty and staff with little to no experience with AI, this session will demystify how these tools work and demonstrate practical applications in teaching, research, and administrative tasks. By the end of the workshop, you’ll gain the confidence to start experimenting with AI tools and discover how they can make your academic and administrative processes more efficient and effective.

10/3/2024: Inbox Issue: Noticing and Responding to Student E-Mails to Increase Student Learning and Student Satisfaction- Reinhild F Boehme |11:30a-12-:20p | Zoom

  • This workshop will explore how to explore to student e-mails that are:
    • A Cry for Help, A Request for Connection, An Implicit Complaint:
      • We will examine e-mails to help us decode implicit messages that may go beyond stated content and identify constructive ways to respond to and interact with students who may not yet know what their specific concern is and how they can voice it safely and appropriately. We will use both a trauma-informed and relationship-based approach to examining and responding to student e-mails.
    • Goals:
      • Participants will be able to formulate compassionate and clear responses to student e-mails.
      • Participants will be able to formulate responses that align with course requirements while at the same time demonstrating compassion.
      • Participants will be able to decode and respond to hidden requests in e-mails.

11/12/2024: The Path to Full Professor: A workshop for associate professors -Antonio Medina-Rivera | 3:00p- 3:50p | Zoom

  • Are you an associate professor who would like to become a full professor?  We are offering a workshop on planning your path.  Whether you have been off the path for a while or are looking to fast track, this workshop can help. Topics to be covered include: Why should I seek promotion? What is the intellectual leadership track vs. the research track? How do I keep my research productivity going (or restart it)?  How do I create a network and build a base for external reviewers? Is maintaining work/life balance possible?  How do I manage service loads (and inequities in them)? We will also review the documentation you will need for creating your dossier and building your case.  The workshop will include four full professor panelists from different disciplines across the university and a question-and-answer session
