Tutoring

Tutoring is not a regularly provided service through Disability and Testing Services. However, a multitude of assistance is available for CSU students. The following is a list of many of the resources available on campus to students:

ACADEMIC support hub

The Academic Support Hub can help with tutoring for primarily your first-year experience or general education classes that count toward University credits. Engineering also coordinates available tutoring for classes through the Hub. You can schedule with tutoring by stopping to their office BH 233 or by scheduling appointments through Starfish. There are also many classes that offer supplemental Instruction in coordination with the Hub.

They also offer Success Coaches for assisting students with Note taking, time management, test preparation, organization, textbook reading, memory, and study skills. See the Hub directions for Scheduling a Success Coach in Starfish for how to get setup with this service.

In addition to these resources, many academic departments set up tutoring through graduate assistants and other students. Please contact the individual department with those inquiries.

OTH 3230 AND 231 OCCUPATION AND THE STUDENT

Course Description
Occupations are activities that take up one’s time. They are culturally and personally meaningful (celebrating holidays, studying, playing guitar, working, spending time with friends, etc.). This course helps students with the occupations that are needed for success at university and life. Each student will learn what occupation is and go through a process of self-analysis to determine areas of strength they possess and where there is opportunity for change. Each student will explore their use of time as it influences their balance and learn how to set goals in order to enact real change in daily patterns and time use, including routine and habitual behaviors. Students will be instructed in the importance of health promoting occupations (sleep, physical activity, leisure, nutrition and eating well, etc.). They will also learn strategies to improve their executive function, social relationships, and search for meaning in life. Group activities will be used to explore concepts in more detail and create a community of learners that can help each other.

Course Objectives

Through this course, students will:

  1. Explore important aspects of a successful, healthy, and happy life.
  2. Perform a self-analysis and identify potential lifestyle changes to enhance success.
  3. Prioritize what is important in life (both in the short-term and long-term).
  4. Identify good and bad habits in their life.
  5. Write reasonable goals to be successful.
  6. Understand healthy behaviors and how to incorporate them into their life.
  7. Understand their sensory needs and how this impacts your learning and life.
  8. Apply new study skills to their current course load.
  9. Reflect on course activities and develop a reasonable plan to keep up the good work into the future.

If enrollment is full or you have additional questions about the course, please feel free to reach out to Dr. Karen Keptner (k.keptner@csuohio.edu) for consideration for access to the closed course. In the event enough interest is expressed, additional and targeted sections will be provided.

If you have struggled with time management, organization, emotional regulation, attendance, task/assignment prioritization and completion, or schedule management we highly recommend considering this course.

Please note: If you are interested in taking part in the course, you need to register through CampusNet. It is a for credit course and would be included in your tuition costs like any other course. Enrollment is available for current CSU undergraduate and graduate/professional students alike.
