Protected Classes List

Research that may be sensitive, controversial, and/or involve protected classes of subjects will be subject to review by the full Institutional Review Board. Protected Subjects involved in research that may require full-board review include:

• Children/Minors
• Cognitively impaired persons
• Prisoners
• Pregnant or lactating women
• Blind individuals
• Military personnel
• Wards of the State
• Institutionalized individuals
• Non-English speaking individuals
• Other participants whose life circumstances may interfere with their ability to make a free choice in consenting to take part in research
