Why “LZ 53”?

Support Services for Military Affiliated Students is also known as Landing Zone 53 (LZ 53).

  • “Landing Zone” is easy to remember — it’s the place where CSU’s veteran and military-affiliated students can “land.”
  • The number 53 honors CSU’s history: During World War II, Fenn College (CSU’s predecessor) was home to the 53rd Cadet Training Detachment of the U.S. Army Air Forces, a ground school for pilots, navigators, and bombardiers.
  • Using “53” today highlights the unbroken connection between military students at Fenn College and Cleveland State University.
